Ember Information Systems LLC builds GrantHarbor on a simple promise: your data is yours. We do not sell your personal data. We do not engage in behavioral advertising. We do not build advertising profiles.
This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.
We collect only what the Service needs to function:

We use your data solely to operate the Service: to authenticate you, to store and display the content you create, to process payments where applicable, and to debug and improve reliability. We do not use it for any purpose you would not reasonably expect.
We do not sell your data. We share it only where strictly necessary to run the Service, or where legally compelled:
We retain nothing, because nothing reaches us. Your files stay on your device and are kept or deleted entirely by you, unless it is connected to a specific feature you have requested of us (see Section 11 below for details).
These rights exist wherever a company holds your personal data. In this application they are already satisfied by design, because we hold none of it:

There is no server to breach and no database of users to leak, because neither exists. The security of your files is the security of your own device, so keep it locked and backed up, and be as careful with the files you export as you would with the originals.
GrantHarbor is built local-first: wherever possible, your data lives on your device or your own instance rather than a central server we mine. This is a deliberate architectural choice, not a marketing line.
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
GrantHarbor connects to two external services, both operated by the U.S. federal government: the Grants.gov public search API, the source of the funding opportunities the app finds for you, and the USASpending.gov public API, which provides the award-precedent lookups used by Pro.
These requests are identical for every user of the app. They contain no account information, no keywords, no identifiers, and no contents of your records. The app downloads the public list of open opportunities and then compares it against your keywords on your own computer. Grants.gov cannot tell what you are looking for, or that the request came from you rather than any other user.
This connection is only made when you run a search from the Discover page. It is never automatic, and the rest of the app works with no network connection at all.
GrantHarbor is local-first: by default, your records stay on your device. Some optional features need to connect to outside services to work, for example email, bug reports, and submitting or exporting your applications. Pro adds an on-device ingestion agent that matches new opportunities locally. Pro is purchased on emberinformation.shop through Stripe; payment is handled by Stripe and Ember never sees your card details. To activate Pro, the email you purchased with is attached to your Pro license, so buying Pro means we receive that email address. The license (the email plus a key) is stored on your device and verified offline; there is no license server and no cross-device sync.
Before any feature transmits your data, creates an account, or collects information, Ember Information Systems will tell you in plain language and let you choose whether to turn it on, except where the law requires otherwise.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be surfaced in the app. The effective date above reflects the latest version.
